Streamless AR experience?
For prototyping, I wanted to have a proper space in which the user stands in front of a painting and the AR experience begins. Now for most cases, when searching for AR experiences I always see user looking through the phone or screen to see the effects. But I wonder, there are so many experiences in which visitors will want to just walk up to the painting and just see the works.
So I wanted to try and see if I can streamline the AR experience in which user will not need to take out their phones but instead, a trinket that visitors will be given at the start of the visit and just wear the trinket as a necklace.
The trinket will then activate the sensors to allow the AR to work. This is just speculation but I just wanted to push the idea of streamless AR experience for visitors
My goal for prototyping was to create a space where the user can interact with a painting through an AR experience without using any device. I noticed that most of the existing AR experiences require the user to look at the effects through a phone or a screen, which can be distracting and cumbersome. I wondered if there was a way to make the AR experience more immersive and natural for the visitors who want to appreciate the paintings without any barriers.
Working with what I have
To achieve this, I came up with an idea of using a trinket as a trigger for the AR experience. The visitors would receive a trinket at the entrance of the exhibition and wear it as a necklace.
The trinket would communicate with the sensors in the space and activate the AR effects when the user approaches a painting. This way, the user would not need to take out their phone or scan any QR code, but simply enjoy the AR experience as part of the exhibition.
This is still a hypothetical concept, but I wanted to explore the possibility of making the AR experience more seamless and intuitive for the visitors.
I have been working on a prototype that uses a "trinket" as a device to enable augmented reality (AR) experiences for visitors.
Software
The idea is to have the trinket function as a sensor that can scan target images and activate AR content, similar to how a phone would do. However, instead of requiring visitors to use their phones, they would simply wear the trinket as a necklace and enjoy a seamless AR experience.
This is an experimental concept that I wanted to explore and test the feasibility of.
As for the software, I decided to go with Meta Spark, as I feel its much more stable in comparison to Adobe Aero. Not to mention I do not require IOS to see the AR effects, and the device required with Meta Spark is any handheld device which helped in my situation as I have a spare Android phone.
Next to show that the sensor picks up the “trinket”, I decided what if the visuals from the trinket phone shines on a wall or painting to display the AR experience. Hence I decided to use a mini projector to project whatever the phone is displaying, in which case is AR design that the phone scans
